Instead, the little boy say prays for his father. I hope the little boy prays to God for help from his abusive father.

Like hail from a blind sky is a simile that the writer used to describe how it felt to be hit by his father. When a hailstorm come, it come without a warning. The poem itself is a metaphor describing that the child is being abuse by his father.
